THE I INTERNATIONAL SIBELIUS SINGING COMPETITION 2007



The International Sibelius Singing Competition was first held from October 23 to October 27, 2007 and was open to citizens of Finland, the other Nordic countries and Estonia. Applications were received from 116 singers, of whom  97 were from Finland, 14 from other Nordic countries and 5 from Estonia.

The Jury consisted of Päivi Nisula, Chairman, soprano, (Finland), Kristian Attila, pianist (Finland), Renate Behle, soprano (Germany), Jorma Hynninen, baritone (Finland) and  Frode Olsen, baritone (Norway). The finals were accompanied by the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Hannu Lintu.

The Jury awarded the prizes as follows:

I prize €10 000 AnnastiinaTahkola, mezzo-soprano
II prize €5 000 Nicholas Söderlund, bass-baritone
III prize €2 500 Sofia Kallio, soprano
Special prize of the Sibelius family €1 500 Sirkka Lampimäki, soprano
Special prize of the City of Järvenpää €750 Susanna Sundberg, mezzo-soprano
Special prize of the City of Järvenpää €750 Jussi Ziegler, baritone
